FSC is an international non-profit organisation established in 1993, the goal of which is to support environmentally correct, socially beneficial and profitable management in forestry worldwide. It was formed at the initiative of environmental groups such as World Wide Fund for Nature, Friends of the Earth, and others...
The reason for its establishment was ongoing over exploitation of tropical forests, as well as governments' in ability to adopt rules for their rescue.
The assumption is that forest certification will mitigate adversetendencies in the relationship between LH and the wood processing industry, as it is in their mutual interest to be ableengage in competition. The future belongs to the companies focusing on customer values and developing loyalty of the customer to thecompany and of the company to the customer.
Mestské lesy Košice a.s. aims for a sustainable method of forest management, emphasizing functions of general public interest and the production of high-quality wood.
We welcomed an initiative of the Gemer Regional Non-State Forest Owners Association (Gemerské Regionálne Združenie Vlastníkov Neštátnych Lesov/GRZVNL) headquartered at Rožňava, Šafárikova 71, which prepared a Group Scheme of Forest Certification (SSCL/Skupinová Schema Certifikácie Lesa) for their members. We havetaken an active role in a workgroup and have taken part in the harmonisation of FSC principles with our laws in order to succeed in the 2004 external final audit and obtaina FSC certificate. The goal of the certification carried out by Mestské lesy Košice a.s. is to demonstrate that our forests are managed in accordance with the internationally recognised principles of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
